Farm to School Harvest of the Month

Farm to SchoolFarm to School connects schools with local farmers to increase local, healthy food in school cafeterias. Through hands-on agriculture, health, and nutrition education opportunities, Farm to School increases the consumption of fruits and vegetables and school meal participation. Additionally, Farm to School increases market opportunities for local producers and supports economic development across numerous sectors.

The District partners with Live54218 to make Farm to School a reality for GBAPS students. In addition to the local items enjoyed in cafeterias district-wide, students at Danz and Howe elementary schools learned about seasonal produce during monthly Farm to School based nutrition lessons and recently got to sample roasted asparagus (the Harvest of the Month item!) from Ledgeview Gardens in De Pere. Farm to School is making a positive impact on our students, and we look forward to its continuation in the 2015-16 school year.
