Preble Announces 2014 Athletic Hall of Fame Class

Preble Pride LogoThe Green Bay Preble Athletic Department proudly announces the 2014 Athletic Hall of Fame Class who will be inducted at a ceremony on Friday, February 13, during the home boys’ basketball game as Preble takes on De Pere. The basketball game starts at approximately 7:30 p.m., and the ceremony will take place at halftime.

The 2014 Hall of Fame class includes:
• Dave Loritz (Class of 1994): Dave participated and lettered in cross country and track and field and served as the varsity head cross country Coach at Preble High School. Dave was a four-time WIAA state qualifier in Cross Country placing as high as third place in 1993. He was the 1992 and 1993 Individual Champion in the WIAA Sectional meets and the 1991, 1992 and 1993 Individual Champion in the FRVC meets. Dave was named the 1992 and 1993 Green Bay Press-Gazette and FRVC Cross Country Runner of the Year. He boasts 23 career cross country race victories and holds four verified cross country course records. He placed fourth in the 3200 meter run at the 1993 WIAA State Track meet. In 1994 he placed second in the 3200 meter run, third in the 1600 meter run and fifth place in the 3200 meter relay at the WIAA State Track meet. In both 1993 and 1994 he was the first place finisher in the 1600 meter and 3200 meter run at the WIAA Regional, WIAA Sectional, FRVC and Brown County meets. Dave was the varsity head cross country coach at Preble High School from 2005-2013 where he was a four-time FRCC and Green Bay Press-Gazette Coach of the Year. His boys’ teams won the conference title in 2005, 2006, 2011 and 2013 and his girls’ team won the conference title in 2006. Dave is married to Elizabeth and has two children; Andrew and Gwen.
• Stacy Mahlik (Class of 1982): Stacy participated and lettered in the sports of volleyball and track and field at Preble High School. In 1992 she was the WIAA State discus champion, breaking and setting a new state record with a throw of 133’2”. She currently holds the Preble shot put record having set it in 1992 with a throw of 43’9”. Stacy was the 1982 Preble Most Valuable Track Athlete and was named the 1982 American Legion Award winner by the Preble athletic department. Stacy played softball and field hockey collegiately at the University of Wisconsin Green Bay. She lettered all four years in softball at UWGB and received all conference (WWIAC) and all-district (NAIA). Her athletics carried her to the Badger State games where in 1986 she had state titles in the shot put 42’9.5” and discus 138’7”. She also participated in the ASA National Women’s Softball Championships and earned most valuable player honors. She was employed by the U.S. Postal Service until her passing in 2001.
• Kevin Stemke (Class of 1997): Kevin participated and lettered in the sport of football at Preble High School. He was a 1994, 1995 and 1996 first team All-FRVC, All-Region and All-State selection in football. He was the 1996 Wisconsin Shrine Bowl MVP and a Schutt All-American Bowl participant. He was selected as a 1996 PrepStar All-American and second team All-America USA Today. He played football collegiately at the University of Wisconsin where he was a 1998 and 2000 first team All-Big Ten winner. He was the inaugural winner of the Ray Guy Award in 2000. Kevin was the recipient of the Collegiate Lee Remmel Award in 2000. He was a member of the Badger teams that won the Big Ten Championship in 1998 and 1999 and the Rose Bowl in 1999 and 2000. He was a 2001 free agent selection by the Green Bay Packers in 2001 and played for the Oakland Raiders in 2002 and the St. Louis Rams in 2004. Kevin is married to Lizzy and has two children; Kerrigan and Edmund.
• Lee Stuyvenberg (Coaching career 1981-1999): Coach Stuyvenberg was the varsity girls head volleyball coach from 1981-1999 at Preble High School. He has a career dual match record of 274 wins and 106 losses and an individual game record of 1129 wins and 571 losses. Lee’s teams won the conference title in 1985, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1994, 1997, 1998 and 1999. Lee’s teams also won the WIAA Regional title in 1983, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999 and the WIAA Sectional title in 1991, 1992, 1993 and 1999. His 1991 team was the Division one State volleyball champions. Lee is a seven time conference coach of the year recipient. He was the 1991 Red Smith award winner. Lee is married to Cathie and has two children; Drew and Matt.
• Ted Velicer (Class of 1988): Ted participated and lettered in the sports of football, basketball and track and field at Preble High School. He was a 1987 All-State selection in football as a lineman. He was a 1986 and 1987 second team FRVC All-Conference selection in football. Ted was the 1988 WIAA-Sectional and WIAA-Regional shot put and discus champion. He was the 1987 and 1988 FRVC indoor and outdoor shot put champion. Ted played football collegiately at the University of Iowa. He was a four year starter at guard on the Hawkeye football team. As a member of the Hawkeye football team he played in the Peach Bowl, Holiday Bowl and Rose Bowl. In the 1991 Rose Bowl he caught a two-point conversion pass. Ted played in the 1992 Blue-Gray All Star game. Ted is married to Shannon and has two children; Trent and Zac.
