Preble FHS Team Attends Event at Briggs & Stratton

B-S Employee Event 1On June 5, the Preble Formula High School (FHS) team attended the Briggs & Stratton employee event held at the B&S Corporate offices. The Wisconsin Formula High School project was created to allow students who are interested in motorsports, engineering, and technology areas a realistic outlet to showcase their skills and talents. Students who are involved in athletic competitions have regular meets or games in which they compete to see how their abilities compare with other schools.

The event on June 5 allowed the B&S employees a chance to see their company’s product in use. There were multiple examples of lawn & garden equipment, construction equipment, generators, snow blowers, etc., along with examples of their engines currently being used in racing. Preble’s prototype race vehicle was tested in front of B&S staff, much to their enjoyment.

Students involved in FHS will now have the opportunity to compete against other schools in a controlled racing time-trial event. Each team is responsible for constructing a vehicle to a strict set of guidelines. Although the competition vehicles may appear cosmetically similar, the differences in the drivetrains, alignment, and steering geometry make for spirited competition. Despite the FHS event being held at a prominent motorsports facility, the focus of the project is to help the students develop the engineering and technical skills that are vital to our nation’s manufacturers.

Thanks to Briggs & Stratton for making this event possible for our students!
