JDAL Students turn a “Pest into Pesto”

Last week students at the John Dewey Academy of Learning (JDAL) participated in a “garlic mustard pull” at the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary, and pulled thousands of pounds of the invasive species from the grounds to improve vegetation and the surrounding environment. To take the project even further, this year the students used the garlic mustard pulled from the sanctuary and up-cycled it into a lunch served at the NEW Community Shelter on May 20, 2014.

The menu for the lunch was planned, prepared and served by JDAL students. It was an incredible experience for all involved!
