This February, Southwest High School teachers and staff members took a tour of Georgia-Pacific in Green Bay. The tour was organized to mutually benefit both Southwest High School staff members and Georgia-Pacific.

Goals of the tour included:
• Provide the educators with an opportunity to connect the classroom to the world of work.
• Showcase Georgia-Pacific as a vital employer in the Green Bay area that focuses on preparing students for high-demand career pathways in manufacturing and engineering.
• Adequately address next generation work-specific employability skills and communicate workforce and economic development opportunities for students.
• Create a mutual understanding of learning for all students to support developing and sustaining strong leaders and life-long learners in partnership with business and industry.

During the tour, educators toured with mill employees and observed first-hand manufacturing careers in action, while working to achieve the above goals. Staff members were also given a close-up look at modern manufacturing and its benefits in the community, and met with Georgia-Pacific leaders to learn more about the company.

Due to the success of the tour, Georgia-Pacific will continue to provide “Educators on Tour” opportunities for staff in other schools. Thanks to strong community partnerships like this one, schools, businesses and community members can work together to ensure all students graduate college, career and community ready.
