District Students top the Competition at Chess Championship Tournament

Local students showed off their chess skills at the 17th Annual Green Bay Scholastic Chess Championship held on Saturday, January 25 at Franklin Middle School. Listed below are the Green Bay Area Public School District students who placed 1st through 3rd in the tournament.

Elementary School Category:
1st place
-Naveen Balu (5th grade), School for Academically Gifted Learners
3rd place
-Jayanth Balu (2nd grade), School for Academically Gifted Learners
-Evan Milkie (2nd grade), School for Academically Gifted Learners
-Peter Kiernan (4th grade), School for Academically Gifted Learners
-Maddux Lunde (4th grade), School for Academically Gifted Learners
-Mansha Ghai (5th grade), School for Academically Gifted Learners

Middle School Category:
1st place
-Tounyia Vang (8th grade), Franklin Middle School
3rd place
-Evan Grathen (6th grade), Franklin Middle School
-River Hawk (8th grade), Lombardi Middle School

The tournament was sponsored by the Green Bay Area Public Schools Gifted and Talented department and the Green Bay Chess Association.
