According to the American Cancer Society, more than one million people in the United States get cancer each year. To help combat this unsettling statistic, Preble High School students and faculty in the Sting Cancer group are taking action. To raise awareness on the impact of cancer and to support finding a cure, Sting Cancer is asking community members to support “Wear Yellow Day” at local workplaces, organizations and schools on Friday, May 10.

Wear Yellow Day – Friday, May 10
An idea that originated from Sting Cancer, Wear Yellow Day allows businesses and establishments in Wisconsin to show support by wearing yellow. Sting Cancer will accept any monetary donations, raffle and silent auction items, and will be selling yellow t-shirts and new this year, polo shirts. Shirts may be ordered in bulk and will be available for pick up at Preble High School, 2222 Deckner Avenue. T-shirts are $6, polo shirts are $20, and can be picked up at Preble on May 7, 8, and 9 from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. To order, fill out the forms online: http://www.gbaps.org/hs/Preble/Pages/STINGCANCER-Wear-Yellow-Day.aspx,
and send with payment to Preble no later than Tuesday, April 23. Checks can be made payable to Preble-Sting Cancer, with attention to Nick Nesvacil.

For more information on the Sting Cancer group, sponsoring or donating to Wear Yellow Day, or purchasing t-shirts, contact Nick Nesvacil at nwnesvacil@gbaps.org. All proceeds from t-shirt sales will be used to purchase gas cards and gift cards for distribution in weekly gift baskets to current cancer patients.

Sting Cancer History
Started by Preble faculty member and cancer survivor Nicholas Nesvacil in 2004, Sting Cancer has grown from a few students at Preble, to hundreds of students in 19 area schools. The group’s mission is to reduce the effects of cancer by initiating and supporting programs and activities for schools and the surrounding community. http://stingcancer.com/
