Preble High School Students to Attend Exclusive Summer Leadership Programs in New York & Madison

Jessica Franco Named a 2013 “Senate Scholar”
The week of April 7 – 12 will be anything but ordinary for Preble High School senior Jessica Franco. Franco was recently accepted into the Senate Scholar Program, an intensive, week-long educational program in Madison offered by the Wisconsin State Senate. Acceptance into the program is highly competitive, and is limited to only 33 high school juniors and seniors from across the state. As a senate scholar, Franco will gain experience in areas such as policy development, constituent relations, and processing legislation by working with senators, legislative staff and University of Wisconsin – Madison faculty.

To be named a senate scholar, applicants must have outstanding academic qualifications and experiences that demonstrate the ability to perform tasks with a high degree of responsibility. Applicants must also be nominated by their state senator, and submit a cover letter, application and resume. Finally, future senate scholars are required to submit an essay and multiple letters of recommendation. Kelsey Kawula to Attend Exclusive Summer Leadership Program in New York City
The summer before her senior year won’t be all fun and games for Preble High School student Kelsey Kawula. Accepted into Mercy College’s highly selective summer leadership program for high school business students, Kawula will spend June 17 – 21 in New York City. Kawula was selected from more than 1,000 applicants as one of 40 students across the nation to attend the program, and is currently the only attendee from Wisconsin. The program consists of three leadership tracks led by top New York executives and Mercy College faculty. Students will gain hands-on experience and have access to industry experts to gain networking opportunities and develop professional skills. The three leadership tracks include entrepreneurship, luxury marketing and banking and investing.

Through the program, Kawula will receive an insider’s view of the financial, advertising and entrepreneurial culture of New York City. The experience also includes visits to the Empire State Building, Museum of Natural History, a tour of the New York Stock Exchange, visits to Fortune 500 companies and much more.
