Vote for Washington Middle School’s New School Mascot

Washington Middle School to Adopt New School Colors and Mascot to Align with East High School
The 2014-15 academic year will mark an exciting alignment for Washington Middle School with East High School’s current fine arts curriculum. In support of this alignment, Washington is adopting its original red and white school colors and introducing a new mascot. The new color scheme will support the relationship between the two schools, yet allow Washington to have its own identity. To help define this new identity and choose a mascot, Washington Middle School is seeking input from students, staff, parents, alumni and community members. The new mascot will display the red and white color theme, and depending on community input, will either be the “Washington Fire,” or the “Washington Heat.” To provide input, interested participants can take the following 30 second online survey:

Voting will be open until 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 22, and the new mascot will be announced mid-April. Here are a few historical facts about the relationship between Washington Middle School and East High School:

• From 1939 to 1972, Washington Junior High School (as it was known then) wore the red and white of the Red Devils.
• East High School varsity basketball played home games at Washington until 1996.
• In 1972, Washington introduced a blue and gold color scheme with a “Rocket” mascot.
