Preble High School Student Commits to Enlisting in the U.S. Navy; Presented with Flag Flown over the U.S. Capitol

CSC_0161From the first time Jon Soyring of Jon’s Driving Academy met Preble High School senior Cody Hallam for a driving lesson, he knew Cody was a special kid. A veteran U.S. Navy hospital corpsman, Jon quickly connected with his student when Cody shared that his father was in the military and had passed away when he was nine years old. After their driving lessons ended and Cody told Jon he’d decided to join the U.S. Navy after high school, Jon sprang into action. He contacted Congressman Reid Ribble’s office, and requested that a flag be flown over the nation’s capitol in Washington D.C. on Christmas Eve to commemorate Cody’s enlistment into the U.S. Navy. Ribble’s office obliged, and Cody was presented with the flag and a special certificate of service at Preble’s senior night for wrestling two weeks ago.

Jon’s Driving Academy provides driver education to teens and adults and gives a discount to families of veterans, and often takes students out for a celebratory dinner if they decide to enlist in the service. Although Jon can’t put his finger on it, he just feels there is something special about Cody. “Cody has a special place in my heart, there is just something about him,” said Jon. “I can’t think of a better kid to represent America in the U.S. Navy than Cody Hallam. He is a positive role model for his peers and he will represent us well.”

Congratulations Cody!
