District Special Programs Offer Education Customization; Open Houses Scheduled for January

The Green Bay Area Public School District offers many special programs to students and families to ensure each district student graduates college, career and community ready. To showcase these special programs to families both in and out of the district, two open houses are scheduled for this month:
Thursday, January 24, 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at East High School, 1415 E. Walnut Street
Saturday, January 26, 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at West High School, 966 Shawano Avenue

Parents and students are welcome to stop by during open house hours to ask questions and learn about the following special programs:
International Baccalaureate (K-12, Chappell Elementary, Franklin Middle School, West High School)
Langlade School for Academically Gifted Learners (grades 1-6)
Spanish Immersion (incoming kindergartners, Danz, Jackson, and Wilder elementary schools)
Nature-based 4K at Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary (NEW!)
John Dewey Academy for Learning (grades 8-12)
iLearnGreenBay (NEW! grades 9-10)
East High School Institute for the Fine Arts (music and visual arts, grades 9-12)
NWTC Science, Technology, and Engineering partnership (NEW! grades 6-12, Lombardi Middle School and Southwest High School)
Aldo Leopold Community School (K-8)
Preble High School Culinary Arts (grades 9-12)
Automotive Technician Certification (grades 9-12, East High School)

Starting 15 minutes after the open houses begin; a 30 minute presentation will be given on changes in secondary mathematics due to the changing Common Core State Standards. Parents and families will learn how the new standards in mathematics will help children be ready for college, career and community. The presentation will also demonstrate how the district has made innovative strides in the areas of middle and high school mathematics to make courses more rigorous and engaging for students.
