NCLB waiver brings school report cards, 2017 agenda

Over the summer, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction received approval for its NCLB waiver request from the federal government in an effort to ensure all students are graduating college, career, and community ready. The new state report cards will be calculated using the new WKCE proficiency cut scores, which are based on the national NAEP assessment proficiency levels.
Individual school report cards will be released to the public in early October. You will see a significant change to percentages of students in each performance category. Many students who were formally proficient will be basic; many students identified as advanced will be proficient. While our students are still performing at the same levels, the measure has changed and the level of the expectations has increased.

This new accountability system will publicly measure how well we are doing, but also provide direction on how we can continue to improve. However, this new initiative is only part of ongoing improvement efforts. The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction has an excellent video to give a full overview of these efforts.
