Help Save the Fort Howard Elementary Log Cabin on Wednesday, July 4

The iconic log cabin located outside of Fort Howard Elementary School, 520 Dousman St., is in dire need of repair. On Wednesday, July 4, volunteers will be selling lemonade and taking donations outside the cabin from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. to raise money to offset $30,000 in renovation costs. The cabin was built by a teacher in the 1970s, and was used as a teaching tool to help students envision life as it was in the early pioneer days. Now, the cabin has become a symbol of Green Bay’s West Side and holds a special place as a beloved landmark in the community.

Community members interested in helping save the cabin can contact Amanda Brooker, manager of school and community relations at 448-2025 or aebrooker@gbaps.org for more information. In addition to a monetary donation, supplies and labor are also needed. Checks can be made payable to the Green Bay Area Public School District, with attention to School Community Relations. To make a credit card donation via phone, call the district office at 448-2210 during work hours.

The log cabin was built in 1976 and myself and another student by the name of Scott Scray were the first students to go inside. The Green Bay Press Gazette took a picture and featured the pic with a small article.
