Jackson Elementary Says “Hola” to New Spanish Programs in 2012

Beginning in fall 2012, Jackson Elementary will be the new home of the Westside Spanish Immersion Program and a Spanish World Language Program. These programs will help students acquire the skills and knowledge that are necessary to be competitive in the world marketplace.

The Spanish Immersion Program will start with September’s kindergarten class, and add another grade level to the program each year.  In September 2017, the optional program will consist of students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Students will learn the content of their lessons in Spanish, and then the teacher will bridge the language to English. The Immersion Program began 12 years ago at Danz Elementary, and has been a very successful program of choice.

The Spanish World Language Program is a class available for students in grades one through five. Students in first and second grade will receive Spanish class three days a week for 20 minutes. Students in third, fourth and fifth grade will receive Spanish class three days a week for 30 minutes.

For more information on these programs, families are invited to attend an informational meeting on Tuesday, April 24 at 9:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., or contact Jennifer Smits Kozak at (920) 492-2620.
