Green Bay West High School Authorized as an International Baccalaureate School – Diploma Programme

Green Bay West High School becomes the 12th school in the state authorized as an International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme World School.  The school has completed the necessary application and authorization process with the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), including a whole school review, teacher training, and new curriculum writing to increase the rigorous standards required by the International Baccalaureate Organization.

In October of 2010, IBO completed an authorization site visit at West High School, where they reviewed the new curriculum and interviewed all staff involved with the program.  The process of becoming an IB World School is designed to ensure schools are well prepared to successfully implement the IB Diploma Programme. West High School will now be teaching the IB Diploma Programme beginning in the 2011-2012 school year. While enrollment counts are still preliminary, there are currently 60 students signed up for IB courses next year.

The IB Diploma Programme is a demanding two-year curriculum that spans the junior and senior year of high school.  Students in the IB Diploma Programme and those taking individual IB courses experience a curriculum that emphasizes a global approach to education, stressing a depth of knowledge and connectedness of curricular areas.  The IB Diploma Programme is designed to create well-rounded students who are reflective, knowledgeable, and balanced in their academics, school, and community involvement.  In addition to completing courses and examinations in six subject areas, IB Diploma Programme students are also required to engage in creativity, action, service, individual research, and complete a theory of knowledge course.  Students who successfully complete the IB Diploma Programme or individual courses can also earn college credit.
