Why are Southwest High School grads making the papers?

Does being a former Trojan mean you’re automatically headed for the spotlight? First, ESPN’s John Anderson (class of 1983 and track star) receives the first ever Distinguished Alumni Award.

Then alumni and track star Kirk DeWindt from the class of 2001 has become a favorite contestant on ABC’s The Bachelorette.

Now, Neil Buethe from the class of 1995  and soccer star is a spokesman for the US Team at the World Cup in South Africa. He was recently quoted after the first game against Team England and goalie Tim Howard’s injury.

Other district high schools are not immune from famous alumni. Green Bay East is the home of Emmy Award-winning actor Tony Shaloub, UVA basketball coach Tony Bennett graduated from Green Bay Preble, and Timbuck 3 frontman and founder of the Steelbridge Festival in Sturgeon Bay Pat McDonald went to Green Bay West, just to name a few.

With the class of 2010 just recently graduated, we’re excited to see what path these former students take to their own futures.
